Smaller Weddings Are Now a Thing
Lots of Irish brides are now choosing to have smaller weddings as they see something more important to spend their money on. Yes, people now want security and that comes from the ability to have a home. Brides and grooms are opting to saving their money for a deposit for a home, they do this by having smaller weddings.
It seems like it’s now a thing of the past to drop 30,000 euro on a massive lavish wedding here in Ireland. A survey has now found that 80 percent of Irish bride and grooms are opting for cheaper and smaller weddings. The survey consisted of 200 brides who stated that they spend on average 1 year organising their wedding day but they admitted that most of that time was spent saving rather than actually organising the wedding day.
Typically most Irish couples will have anywhere between 100 to 150 guests at their wedding and spend between 15,000 and 25,000 euro. Of the brides surveyed, the fast majority of them would prefer to have a much smaller wedding and save for a deposit for a home. Saving for a home is so important to anyone as the home is for life and the wedding occasion is over and the money’s all gone and your still either living with your man or paying someone else’s mortgage and hating the fact you don’t own your own home.

The women surveyed stated that the venue is the most important aspect of their wedding and this is closely followed by the wedding dress and catering. A venue would be one of the biggest expenses to any bride, they can cost anywhere from 1,000 euro to 5,000 and beyond. The brides were also asked how much they think is acceptable for a wedding gift. The survey found that on average they agreed that anywhere between 100 and 150 is an acceptable cash gift.
How big was your wedding or will your wedding be? Do you think having a home is more important that a big and expensive wedding? I personally think a home is more important and would opt for a home first then get married the way I want when I are the money saved up. Each to their own 🙂
